Fahrenheit 451 (section 2)

We are now up to section 2 of the book.
Summary : Montag begins to read the books with mildred, but she takes no interest. He remembers about meeting Faber and he takes the subway to go find him. They create a plan to plant the books into the firemans houses to get them burned. Meanwhile, Faber's cowardice enrages Montag and he begins to rip out pages of the book, but eventually, stirred by Montag's convictions, Faber joins the plan and gives Montag a communication device.
Later, when Montag heads home, he becomes annoyed and enraged listening to Mildred and her friends talk about meaningless things. He disconnects the television set and begins to read Dover Beach to them. Eventually one of them broke down completely and the other left in rage.
In the next scene, Montag heads to work, fearing the meeting with Beatty. Beatty taunts him and trys to get him to admit that he stole the books when the firehouse alarm sounded.
They rush to the scene and Montag realizes that it is his own house that is being burnt.
Reaction : To me, this section was a lot more interesting then the first. It went at a faster pace and it had more suspence. Escpecially when Montag realizes that they are going to burn his house. If I had to pick a favorite section, it would be when Beatty grills Montag and almost got him to confess about the books. It's strange how much he knows about literature, and yet, he isn't impressed or effected by it. Furthermore, his ability to convince and twist peoples minds in amazing.
In the end, section two was a lot better and more exciting than section one. I liked that there were more twists and turns to the story. I look foward to section three, from what I've heard, it's even better than section two!

This Week (Fahrenheit 451)

This week, our class has been reading the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
So far I'm up to page 35 and the main character, Guy Montag, has been experiencing internal conflict about his job and the justice and morality of the society he's living in.
It starts when he meets a teenager named clarisse, who sort of pollutes his mind with liberal ideas.
She later dies of a car crash though... thats again... depressing.
Anyways, the book has been great and enjoyable so far, and i look foward to reading more of it next week.

My Favorite Author

My favorite author is Jordan Sonneblick
I love his writing style! especially how he mixes humor in with the story
My favorite book by him is Drums, Girls and Dangerous Pie
It is about the life of Steven Alper after his brother is diagnosed with leukemia.
A sequal, After Ever After, was released in 2010. (the protagonist being Steven's brother, Jeffery)
Another author im starting to like is Cormac McCarthy
I've only read two of his novels so far, but his novels have been interesting and....... depressing.

This Week's Reflections

First of all, sorry its late....
finally got my google account back!
Over the last two weeks, we have been on our school graduation trip in Malaysia/Singapore
The trip was fun at times, but there were also some not so great moments.
During this trip, we were suppose to "experience" foreign cultures etc.
However, we didnt really learn their cultures. I guess if you count watching a man harvesting fruits or collecting rubber counts... then sure. But we didnt really learn about the more important stuff. For example, instead of sleeping in a local village or visiting our sisters schools, we should've spent more time exploring the city or learning the history of the Malaysia.
Anyways, enough with the negative stuff. It was fun to spend two weeks with my classmates! I did learn some things (Newater, we visited some museums, etc.)
During the trip, I read North and South (By Elizabeth Gaskell)
The novel was... well to put it..... it was pretty boring at the beginning, but towards the end it became more interesting. I have to admit, i was happy for them when the author hinted that they were gonna get married
If I had to rate it from one to ten, it would be a 6.

Reflections : Week 2 (Macbeth)

Summary - Macbeth was a successful general/lord that had just defeated foreign invaders, then he and his friend banquo meet 3 witches who tells them their future (Macbeth will become king, but so will Banquo's kids) Macbeth then murders King Duncan and Banquo and eventually he even murders Macduff's family. In the end, he is defeated by Macduff and Banquo's children become king.
Reflection - For me, Macbeth was a beautiful play that showed just how much greed, guilt and a little convincing (Lady Macbeth) can change a person. However, while it was a good play, it was a little too depressing (Plus we're only reading tragedies in class) I look foward to reading King Lear next week, and I hope we can read some of his comedies in the future!

Reflection

After reading Romeo & Juliet (The Short, Choppy Version) I felt that Romeo is, well, a little too dramatic. How can he love Rosaline one second and just get over her and fall in love with Juliet the next. Also, I can't imagine someone with worst luck than Romeo & Juliet, they just can't get a break (He kills her cousin in self defense, etc.) Anyway, it was great to read a 25 page version of Romeo and Juliet and I look foward to reading a 25 page version of Macbeth next week.
